day trips - 2009/2010

All day trips meet at McDonald's (Bee Ridge/ Cattlemen) unless otherwise noted. Field trips are open to anyone interested in birding, wildlife watching or exploring Florida's natural areas. Suggested donation of $2 for members, $4 for non-members appreciated.

NO RESERVATIONS ARE NECESSARY UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED.

For more information, contact each individual Trip Leader.  TRIP WAIVER: Participation is on condition that Sarasota Audubon Society and its officers and volunteers will not be held liable for damage or injury to persons or property.  Further details and directions to be added later - please check back.

Tuesday, Nov 24: BIRKING ON THE LEGACY TRAIL What do you get when you combine biking and birding? ANSWER BIRKING. Join Kathryn Young (612-760-1771) for an easy ride to Oscar Scherer SP to look for Scrub Jays and other birds along the way. Approx. 10 miles round trip. Meet at the northern Legacy parking lot at 8:30 a.m. on MacIntosh Rd., just south of Palmer Ranch Pkwy. See SAS website for directions. Bring Lunch and Water. - map

Friday Dec 4: ALL ABOARD THE SIESTA KEY SHOREBIRD TROLLEY Join Kathryn Young (612-760-1771) and Rick Greenspun on this fun way to see all the shorebirds on Siesta Key. Friday/Saturday, Feb12/13: STATION 5 HENDRY COUNTY Tour this stormwater treatment area near Clewiston. The area is a vast construction of wetlands that uses vegetation to naturally cleanse excess nutrients from water before it enters the Everglades. These remote, shallow-water marshes attract many species of birds. Overnight Friday in Clewiston, then an early visit to the facility. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. Kathryn Young, 612-760-1771.
