The Pinecraft Potato Fest and Garbage Clean Up was a huge success. We estimate that between 50 and 60 folks showed up, including many extremely industrious kids.  About 2000 air potatoes were taken out of the park, mostly by kids who eyed the prizes and worked accordingly!  In addition, many bags of garbage were hauled out. Some odd items: a very old tool belt complete with drill, wire fencing, a kitchen chair in sorry state. Of course, plenty of cans and bottles too.

Many, many thanks go to SAS volunteers (about 20 or so), the Ridin’ Rednecks 4H Club led by Darby Larkin, students and parents from School In The Park led by Bryan Fluech, and Sarasota County staffers, Jerris Foote and Roxanne Wilkinson. Thanks also to Mike Dubi for helping to judge potatoes with Karen Jensen—it turned out to be a tough job, not unlike judging a skating competition!
