3. BEACH NESTING BIRD MONITORS NEEDED
Beach Nesting Bird (BNB) Monitors: We need volunteers to participate in
checking and reporting on nesting beach sites of Snowy Plovers, Least
Terns and Black Skimmers. Includes training and mentoring. Volunteers
should be able to commit to at least one beach walk a week. BNB
Monitors will help repair and post signs and stakes, used to secure
zones for the birds to nest in.
BNB Stewards: During the holiday weekends of Memorial Day and July 4,
we need Beach Stewards to help educate the general public about our
beach nesting birds. You will also help distribute flyers to the general
public and set up scopes near nest sites for viewing.

4. Conservation Chair
Wanted: Conservation Chair or Chairs - To work as
Deputy Chair(s) with Wade Matthews for a year to learn the job and get
experience, then take over both job and title(s). If all the
responsibilities seem too time-consuming for one person, we can have
two, one being Conservation Chair (National/Statewide issues) and the
other Conservation Chair (Local issues). Contact

A. Conservation Chair - National / Statewide

Follow Congressional, Legislative and Agency
actions and advise Board and members of those actions. Send and
solicit letters/telephone calls pro or con.

Coordinate action with other local groups on
NAS, AOF and other national and statewide conservation goals (e.g.
climate change, oil drilling, endangered species, population).

Represent SAS on ECOSWF Board and on AOF Gulf
Coast Regional Conservation Committee and statewide ad hoc
conservation issues.

Testify or write as necessary to Legislature or
State agencies.
B. conservation chair -
Local
-
Follow County Commission and local government
actions (ESLOC, Parks, Planning Boards) that affect wildlife and the
natural environment. Apply for appointment to citizen advisory
boards (ESLOC, task forces, etc.) dealing with those issues. Keep
Board and members informed of those actions and solicit their
involvement.

Coordinate with Sierra, Manasota 88, CSG and other
local environment and land use groups on common actions on local
environmental issues.

Testify before the County Commission, City
Commission, Planning Boards and participate in workshops on local
ordinances and issues.

Serve as Alternate SAS member of the SWFWMD
Environmental Advisory Committee (Julie Byrne is the principal
member).

Receive and respond to telephoned and other
inquiries on environmental, bird and wildlife issues of concern from
the public.
Do you enjoy working with children and teachers? Do you feel that
interests developed young tend to stay with us? As our Education
Chair, you will develop programs for children. You'll liaise with
local schools and other kids' organizations in order to provide nature
outings and activities that further the environmental education goals of
Sarasota Audubon. I
