you can help
The Sarasota Audubon Society is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization and is a local chapter of the National Audubon
Society. All the effort comes from volunteers, there are no paid
positions, and we receive minimal financial support from National
Audubon. (Some outside monthly speakers receive an honorarium.)
Sarasota Audubon supports birding and the enjoyment of our environment -
but there's more.
-
Partnerships with Sarasota County government, helping to protect and
preserve local environmentally-sensitive areas, especially at the
Celery Fields.
-
Environmental education partnerships with other local community
groups, including Save our Seabirds and Crowley Nature Center.
-
Annual presentation of an Environmental Business Award, recognizing
an outstanding local environmentally-conscious business.
-
Academic scholarships for college-bound students pursuing
environmental study.
- Lively and educational walks, day trips and activities, exposing
local citizens and visitors to positive nature-oriented experiences.
-
Staying current on local, state, and national conservation
initiatives and issues.
There are a number of ways you can help SAS in our mission. Become more
knowledgeable on the latest issues surrounding sustainability. (We like
the notion of sustainability - Going "green" is laudable, but we find
the message is becoming overused and over-commercialized.) Help us with
your time or expertise. And of course we depend on financial support
from volunteers like yourself. We're adding some guideposts around the
website to help you help us.
The sustainability pelican (he's "green" as a
reminder) will help you find some areas where you can become better
informed, more knowledgeable about the environment, conservation, or
what's going on locally in Sarasota that impacts our wildlife, and
especially birds.

The blue pelican (think "true blue" support) will be appearing
throughout the website to highlight some things you can do to help
Sarasota Audubon with your time and/or expertise. Like all volunteer
organizations, we're always ready to welcome your help. You can donate
cookies for a monthly meeting, participate in a roadside cleanup, do
some bird guiding for "newbies" - with birding, the sky's the limit.
Finally, our red pelican (we want to stay "out of the red") will show
you some ways you can help Sarasota Audubon with your generous financial
support. Become a local member, check out the Network for Good link,
buy a raffle ticket at a monthly meeting, make sure you have the latest
edition of Hotspots - or consider a lasting legacy to Sarasota Audubon.
Thanks in advance for your contributions.
Right now, please consider making an on-line donation. Learn more about
