His research tracking the timing of Veery Thrush reproduction and migration over 17 years to and from South America predicting hurricane seasons has gained international attention and has proven to be pioneering in this field of study. January 12: Joanna X. Wu, Ornithologist and Avian Ecologist, introduces us to The Galbatross Project which focuses on the incredible importance of studying the females of bird species, noting the number of knowledge gaps in the scientific body of knowledge about female birds.
February 9: Jonathan Meiburg, Ornithologist, indie rock musician and world expert on the Crested Caracara. He will discuss his acclaimed book A Most Remarkable Creature, in which he chronicles the evolutionary story of this curious group of falcons which frequent the Celery Fields.
March 9: David & Tammy McQuade, renowned Florida-based national champion birders, take us on their latest birding adventure Chasing the North America 2025 Big Year Record.
April 13: Tina Morris, Ornithologist, regales us with Return to the Sky – Bald Eagle Reintroduction. In the spring of 1975, on the eve of the US Bicentennial, Tina was selected to reintroduce Bald Eagles into New York State in the hope that the species could eventually repopulate eastern North America. This presentation is based on her 2024 book Return to the Sky: The Surprising Story of How One Woman and Seven Eaglets Helped Restore the Bald Eagle.
May 11: Benjamin Dimmitt, Conservation Photographer, will discuss his recent book on Florida’s vanishing wetlands An Unflinching Look: Elegy for Wetlands a deep, peer-reviewed examination of the impact of climate change on the wetlands at the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge on Florida’s Gulf Coast, 70 miles north of Tampa.
